[United Bamboo Fall/Winter 2010 Collection
Is Amelia Earhart shaping up to be an early muse of the season? A photograph of the famed pilot was indeed the influence for Miho Aoki and Thuy Pham's latest collection. "[It's] a tribute to a fearless, adventurous woman," Pham said. You don't have to be a risk taker to pull off most of these looks, though. On offer were nicely tailored wool suiting jackets, draped silk dresses with bow details. Fall featured more menswear-inspired details than some of the duo's recent efforts. Aoki and Pham still maintained the sweetness inherent to the brand, but playing it off against more masculine silhouettes served to heighten the charm. (Review by STYLE.COM By .)

[Brand Overview...]
Japanese-born F.I.T. alum Miho Aoki and Vietnamese-born Thuy Pham founded United Bamboo in 1998, making their New York runway debut for fall 2004. The pair employs innovative patterns, fabrics, and construction, like origami pleats, asymmetrical shapes, and architectural lines. The duo is also entrenched in the underground art and music scene, taking on collaborative “art projects” like artist-designed T-shirts printed with provocative cartoons or compilation CDs produced by indie music label United Acoustic Recording. The first United Bamboo store opened in 2003 in Tokyo and a subsequent men’s store opened in Harajuku in 2006.
