Surrealism is a cultural movement that began in the early 1920s, and is best known for the artworks of its members. The works feature the element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions and absurd comedy. Luis Bunuel was a Spanish surrealist filmmaker who worked mainly in Mexico and France. He is considered one of the most important directors in the history of cinema. his films were famous for their surreal imagery. The discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie is a 1972 surrealist film written and directed by Bunuel. The film is about a group of upper middle-class people attempting, despite continual interruptions, to dine together. the film received the 1972 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
