Malene's interest in design began at an early age. Her main inspiration was her grandmother, as well as her mother's sharp eye for fashion and trends. She graduated from the prestigious Denmark Design School. After leaving Marc O'Polo as head designer, she established her first company - DAY Birger et Mikkelsen with Keld Mikkelsen and won the Danish Design Award her first year out. In 2003 Malene created By Malene Birger and continues to receive multiple design awards and accolades from the press as a designer worth watching.
